Flight Shawl

Just a little update on the progress of my new shawl "Flight"

I have recently picked up my knitting again and loving it, move over crochet πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

So I decided to knit a Fairisle stranded two colour shawl.  Every month Yorkshire Yarn Fest hold an online event and I spend a lovely Saturday once a month watching the exhibitors.  My purse always takes a hit on those particular Saturdays though !

I ordered some lovely yarn from Cookston Crafts and set about charting and casting on my new design.

I have found though, as my shawl is growing, the paper chart itself is becoming unmanageable ! as in its huge.  I can now see why designers create a repeatable pattern.  I don't want to change my design though I am loving the swooping swallows and flowers climbing up the shawl.  So to combat this problem I have decided to write the pattern out row by row which is much easier to follow. So when I publish this pattern there won't be any paper charts to print off.  Hopefully this will suit people and they will still be interested to knit it. ... We will see.  Here is a picture of its size so far

My progress is very slow as I am not a fast knitter anyway and also I started off carrying the floats across the back and catching them in every 3 stitches.  As you can see from the photo below I wasn't happy with how it was looking and decided as it was a shawl and the back would be seen I wanted to catch the floats in on every stitch.  It now looks much nicer. 😁 I am not frogging the beginning I can't be bothered and as its my sample and for me I will have to hide it somehow when I'm showing it off.

I have cast on another sweater project for myself though so one or the other will be jostling for my attention in an evening.

The shawl is from fingering weight yarn, it asymmetrical and has a double i cord selvage on the edges to give it some stretch for the increases.  I am using Aubergine and Denim with Aubergine as the main pattern colourway running throughout and I will introduce two more colours as I go.

We have had a little kitten in November, she isn't growing very fast, I don't think she is going to grow very big. I'm probably just used to my huge cat Roary so in my eyes she's tiny, maybe she's normal size to everyone else. She loves to get in my knitting bag.  When we went to Northumberland last year I treated myself to a lovely Emma Ball knitting bag, naughty really as I do make my own project bags to sell.  Steve was being facetious and said the ones I don't sell I could use as her cat baskets! I wasn't amused 😠

She also manages to come and plonk her bum down on my work when I am trying to chart, or study she manages to get everywhere πŸ˜‚

Here are a few more progress pics.

I have also updated my you tube podcasts, I endeavor (posh word πŸ˜†) to post a vlog every two weeks.  We will see how that goes ......  In my defence I am studying too 😣

Me and Woody making our podcast because of course he had to get in on the action πŸ˜„

So that's about it for today, I have three smelly dogs to walk and some studying to get on with, then I can relax with my knitting.
